Vol. 223 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lamb Subsidy.

33.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will arrange, under the new scheme of subsidy to mountain farmers for lambs, for the inclusion in the scheme of Kerry scotch ewes from two years to six years old which are sold off the mountains in the fall of each year for breeding purposes on the lowlands.

Subsidy is payable on Greyface hogget ewes the progeny of Border Leicester rams and Blackface mountain ewes. The subsidy is intended to encourage flock owners in the foothills to buy Blackface ewes from the mountains for such crossing, and will, therefore, assist mountain sheep owners by providing a better market for such ewes.
