Vol. 223 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Removal of Election Material.

44.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will take steps to have posters and other advertising material for election purposes removed from telegraph poles.

It is not intended that my Department should incur special expenses in removing election material from Telegraph poles. Any such material found on poles in the course of engineering work will be removed.

The Minister made a public statement that he was prepared to proceed against persons who posted this material on telephone poles. Is the Minister now in a position to say if he will, in fact, move against those people?

Against Deputy Haughey, as director of elections?

Against the President, I presume.

He did a first-class job. If the Minister's Department were as efficient as his supporters were before the elections, all these posters would be gone long ago.
