Vol. 223 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tourist Industry Loss.

6.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware of the loss caused by the British shipping strike to the tourist industry; and if he has any statement to make on the matter.

I am informed by Bord Fáilte that the extent of the loss to the tourist industry by reason of the British shipping strike will not be known for a considerable period after the end of the dispute. Some of those who planned to travel to Ireland on the affected services will have been accommodated on other services. To counteract the effects of the strike to some extent Bord Fáilte have been making a particular effort to attract holiday traffic from Northern Ireland and have accelerated their promotion drives in Europe and North America.

Is the Minister aware that the strike has just ended?

I have just heard that.

It is good news.
