Vol. 223 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyfermot Vocational School.

44.

asked the Minister for Education when the second vocational school for boys in Ballyfermot, Dublin will be opened; and when he expects a vocational school for girls in the same area will be built and opened.

I understand that the second vocational school for boys in Ballyfermot will be completed next month. This school should accordingly be open for classes in September.

I cannot say when the vocational school for girls in Ballyfermot will be built, as formal proposals in this regard have not yet been made by the vocational education committee.

Would the Minister use his good offices to ensure that whatever difficulties there may be in the way of a site and capital for a girls' school will be overcome because of the need for vocational schools for girls in this colossal suburb of Dublin?

I am aware of the necessity for the provision of schools there. The matter, in the first instance, is one for the vocational education committee.

The Minister will help them?

I shall not hinder them.

I should like the Minister to be more positive than that.

I cannot take the initiative in these matters.
