Vol. 223 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Closing of County Sligo School.

47.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the fact that since Masshill national school, County Sligo, was closed some time ago children from that area have to walk up to six miles to school at Cloonacool, County Sligo; and if he will provide transport for those children as this distance is too far for young children to walk.

Masshill national school was closed in 1955 because the number of pupils in attendance fell below seven for two consecutive years. The question of establishing a transport service was considered on many occasions in the meantime but the number of pupils was not sufficient to warrant its establishment. I have been informed very recently, however, that the number of children in the area has increased and I am having the matter investigated.
