Vol. 223 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Supplementary Housing Grants.

19.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that while Dublin Corporation pays supplementary housing grants to applicants who reside either within or without the city boundary, the county council has continued to reject applications from applicants who reside in Dublin city and seek to build in the county area unless such applicants or their wives were born outside the city boundary; and if he will take steps to have the anomaly resolved with a view to the promotion of house building.

I am aware that the position regarding the payment of supplementary new house grants is substantially as stated by the Deputy. It is open to the housing authorities concerned to modify or dispense with the residence qualifications for their schemes. Last year I asked the authorities concerned to remove these restrictions. Little progress has so far been made but I am continuing my efforts to solve the difficulties.
