Vol. 223 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

29.

asked the Minister for Local Government when sanction may be expected for the Drogheda Corporation water augmentation scheme.

While the proposals for the carrying out of this scheme are in order, the Corporation's application for sanction to the raising of a loan to finance the work is still under consideration. I am not in a position to say when a decision on it will be given.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the Caherdaniel and Castlecove water schemes, County Kerry.

I am informed by Kerry County Council that preliminary proposals for the Derrynane/Caherdaniel and final drawings for Castlecove water supply schemes are in course of preparation and will be submitted to my Department shortly.

31.

asked the Minister for Local Government how many water supply schemes for County Leitrim are prepared and sanctioned by his Department; and how many schemes are with the Department for sanction.

Five water supply extension schemes have been fully approved by my Department. There are no proposals for water supply schemes before my Department awaiting sanction.

32.

asked the Minister for Local Government when work will commence on the Fivemilebourne-Carrickaneroo water extension scheme as farmers from Fivemilebourne to Mr. P. McGuire's of Banagher, have been anxiously awaiting supply since it was brought from Shramore a number of years ago.

No proposals for this extension have been submitted to my Department.

33.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give sanction as requested by Laois County Council in December, 1965, for the extension of the sewerage scheme for Ballinakill; and if he will deal with this matter as one of urgency having regard to the fact that the delay is in his Department and not with the county council.

No proposal for this extension has been submitted to my Department.

34.

asked the Minister for Local Government when sanction may be expected for the Drogheda Corporation sewerage extension scheme.

I am informed by Drogheda Corporation that work on the first stage of the sewer extension in the Ballymakenny Road area has commenced. A proposal submitted by the local authority on 7th June, 1966, requesting approval for a further limited extension of this work to serve a new housing development is at present under examination in my Department.

35.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that Mayo County Council received a demand for the payment of £63,965 6s. 2d. from two consulting engineers who were engaged in the work of preparing plans for sewerage and water schemes; and that the county council were notified that there is no money available to go ahead with these proposals; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by Mayo County Council that claims for fees from their consulting engineers for work on preparation of plans for a number of water supply and sewerage schemes were received and have been paid in part.

The county council were not informed as suggested by the Deputy that no money was available for the schemes concerned.

Is the figure given by the Deputy correct, a £63,000 claim for fees?

Yes, that is right.
