Vol. 223 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sligo-Leitrim School.

42.

asked the Minister for Education how many new schools are due to be built in County Sligo and in County Leitrim; and when work will start on those schools.

There are at present eight national schools in County Sligo and seven in County Leitrim listed for replacement where building operations have not yet begun. In one of the cases it is hoped to commence building work shortly. Investigations have been proceeding in 17 other cases to determine whether the future provision should be by way of amalgamated schools or central schools. In five cases where investigations have been completed proposals have been submitted to the school managers concerned.

The only proposal for the erection of a vocational school in either Leitrim or Sligo relates to the question of providing a one-roomed school at Dromahair, County Leitrim. The planning of this proposed school has not yet been completed.

An application is before my Department for the erection of a new secondary school in Sligo town. The application is as yet at a very early stage of consideration.
