Vol. 224 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Post-Primary Education.

33.

asked the Minister for Education if the survey of post-primary needs has been completed for Dublin County; and if so, if he will state (a) the number of vocational schools needed and where, and (b) the number of secondary schools needed and where.

Mr. O'Malley

The survey of post-primary educational facilities in North County Dublin has been completed and will be discussed with the local school authorities in the very near future. The position in the county areas bordering Dublin city must be considered in conjunction with the city and Dún Laoghaire and this is being done by an advisory council composed of representatives of my Department, the ecclesiastical authorities, secondary schools and the vocational education committees for the city and county of Dublin. The council has not yet completed its deliberations and I am not therefore in a position to supply the information sought by the Deputy.

The Minister is aware of the urgency of reaching the end of this and making definite decisions in relation to the building of schools? Can he say approximately when these deliberations will finish and when he will make an exact announcement about North County Dublin?

Mr. O'Malley

I do not think I would be in a position to make a comment. I shall have the full report before the New Year and then I will be in a position to make a comprehensive statement.
