Vol. 224 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Radio Telefís Éireann Broadcasts.

20.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he made suggestions to the authorities at Radio or Telefís Éireann following which news items were changed or deleted and, if so, the number of occasions and the reasons for his actions on all such occasions.

21.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he suggested to Radio or Telefís Éireann that certain individuals be not allowed to broadcast; if so, the number of occasions and the reasons for his actions on all such occasions.

I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 20 and 21 together.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply given by the Taoiseach to similar Dáil questions.

On a point of order, with regard to Question No. 21, surely if a Deputy tables a question to a Minister and it appears on the Order Paper with the consent of the Chair, there is an obligation on the Chair to ensure that the Minister gives a reasonable answer to the question?

I am not aware of the source of the Deputy's information.

Would the Chair clarify the point for me?

The Chair has no responsibility for the Minister's answer.

Hear, hear.

It is the lack of answer.

Mr. O'Leary

So long as the question is in Parliamentary language.
