Vol. 224 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Swinford (Mayo) School.

27.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has arranged for a final inspection of Mellick new national school, Swinford, County Mayo, with a view to finding out if there are any defects in the building, roof or playground.

A final inspection of the work covered by the main contract has been made and I am advised that any matters which previously called for attention are now satisfactory.

Additional works comprising the draining and levelling of the playfield and the provision of shelving in the teachers' room are being carried out separately.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say if the contractors have been paid in full for this work so far? Would he give me and the House an assurance that the contractors will not be paid until he is perfectly satisfied that the work has been carried out satisfactorily?

That would be quite a normal practice.

Personally, I am not satisfied that it was carried out satisfactorily.
