Vol. 224 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Millable Wheat Deliveries.

21.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the quantity of millable wheat delivered from the 1966 harvest; and if he will express this as a percentage of the miller's grist.

Up to and including the week ended 8th October the quantity of undried millable wheat of the 1966 crop delivered to flour millers was about 116,000 tons. This is equivalent to about 105,000 tons dried, which would represent about 31 per cent of the millers' annual usage of wheat. Final figures will not of course be available for some time.

Is it the Minister's intention this year to insist that all the wheat from the 1966 crop will be included in the grist and from the word "go", that is, all wheat including potentially millable wheat?

I do not think there will be any problem this year. The amount of potentially millable is so small relative to the millable category that I do not think it will be a problem.
