Vol. 224 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pensions Committees.

26.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of old age pensions committees; and the number of cases in which such committees in the last year recommended variations of decisions of social welfare officers.

There are at present 39 old age pension committees and 324 sub-committees. Statistics are not kept in regard to cases in which the decision of a committee does not agree with the recommendation of the social welfare officer.

Would the Minister consider the compilation of such statistics in order that the appropriateness of the decisions of the social welfare officers and the advice of these committees could be considered?

I would suggest that if the Deputy wishes this investigation to be carried out, he should put down another question.
