Vol. 224 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Financial Aid for Company.

42.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what financial assistance by way of trade loan or otherwise was made to a company (name supplied); and how much, if any, of this money has been repaid.

A loan of £30,000 guaranteed under the Trade Loans (Guarantee) Acts, 1939 to 1954, was obtained by the company in 1960. The amount of the loan repaid to date is £6,320. I have no knowledge of any other repayable advances made to the company.

Would the Minister indicate that the amount repaid, £6,320, is, in fact, the correct amount in settlements that have been paid up to date? Is there any overdue amount outstanding?

It must be correct, as the Minister would take action if it were not.

He might not have taken action yet.

The Deputy will appreciate that there is a certain flexibility in the repayment of this amount. You could not say what is the correct amount.

Would the Minister be in a position to give Deputy Cosgrave a more detailed reply in regard to this matter?

On another question?

No, on that question, whether in fact the total amounts have been repaid?

I am not in a position to give that.

Could it be given later?

Once there is flexibility and once the Minister decides to allow more time, you could not take that as unreasonable delay in repayments. If the Deputy wants me to say that the payments made are the proper amounts, I can say that what is proper is what the Minister decides in the circumstances of a particular case.

I have never heard of a loan in which there was not a time set down for repayment.

I do not know whether it would be desirable to make the original repayment in full. Perhaps the Deputy will put down another question.
