Vol. 225 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary River Drainage.

20.

asked the Minister for Finance what steps have been taken during the past year in regard to the drainage of the Carrigahorrig river, County Tipperary.

As I stated in reply to the Deputy's question on 9th February, 1966, the drainage scheme for the Carrigahorrig is one of the schemes which it has been found necessary to postpone due to restrictions in capital expenditure.

Is it not a fact that the Parliamentary Secretary's predecessor made a statement, which appeared in the public press, that the Carrigahorrig river was passed by his office and was to be done in 1965?

I do not know what the Deputy means by "passed", but a scheme has been prepared by the Office of Public Works for the drainage of the Carrigahorrig river and it will be considered in conjunction with other rivers of the same kind when capital becomes available for that purpose.

The statement was made that the money had already been passed and that the river would be done in 1965. It appeared in the public press.

That was during an election campaign.

(Cavan): The same man promised Shannon drainage, a health scheme and a free education scheme.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say why he will do the Carrigahorrig and will not do the Corrib-Headford river?

That is a separate question.

It is not; it is the same problem.
