Vol. 225 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Minister's US Visit.

35.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of engagements he cancelled in the United States as a result of his premature return home; and the nature of these engagements.

With the exception of a television interview, none of the functions in which I was to have participated in the United States was cancelled as a result of my return home. The Irish Ambassador to the United States and one of the members of the Industrial Development Authority fulfilled all other engagements on my behalf.

In the interests of fair play and courtesy, can the Minister deny the statement being spread by Haugheyites that he came home of his own accord and was not invited by the Taoiseach?

No reply! The muzzle is well and truly on today.

Come home; all is forgiven.

36.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the total cost of his recent visit to the United States.

Particulars regarding the cost of my recent visit to the United States are not yet available. If Deputy Donegan repeats his question in three or four weeks time, I hope to be in a position then to provide the information requested.
