Vol. 225 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Aer Lingus Fares.

8.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether air fares on Aer Lingus flights between this country and Britain are to be increased.

I understand that in order to offset increasing costs Aer Lingus, in common with other carriers on the routes, propose to increase fares as on and from 1st April next on the routes between this country and Great Britain. My approval of the increase will be necessary but no formal application has yet been made to me by the company.

Mr. O'Leary

Is the Minister satisfied this increase will keep the fares on Aer Lingus routes to Britain competitive with the rates charged by other carriers?

The rates are going up for other carriers as well.

Mr. O'Leary

And ours are going up to keep pace?

These are standardised fares on each route.
