Vol. 225 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Installing of Business Telephones.

8.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether telephone installations for business purposes have priority over installations for private use; and whether this priority has equal application on the north and the south side of Dublin.

Priority is normally given to business applications where the nature of the business or the employment content warrants this. This arrangement applies in all areas.

Mr. O'Leary

Did I get the impression about a shopping centre that if they make a request for such installation, the request will be acceded to or is there any period before this is, in fact, accepted?

I said that applications for business purposes rather than for private houses are normally at a higher priority. A great deal depends on the volume of applications and the availability of the installation.

Mr. O'Leary

And there is no difference as to speed between the north and south sides of Dublin?

Specifically, there is not. The point is that there are certain areas where we are in a position to give service on demand and there are more areas of this nature in the southern section than in the northern section.

Mr. O'Leary

But, as the Parliamentary Secretary sees it, there is no discrepancy?
