Vol. 226 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Finance.

63.

asked the Minister for Local Government if more money is now available for housing; and if local authorities can proceed with their plans to provide houses for all those who need them in the knowledge that the money will be available from his Department.

The additional capital provided by the Government last July for housing and sanitary services works enabled the total allocation for local authority housing this year to be increased to approximately £11¾m. This amount is estimated to be adequate to meet existing commitments and to enable work to go ahead, without any hold up, on all proposals for house building which have reached, or will reach, the stage of approval to tenders in the current financial year.

As regards the planning of schemes, housing authorities were informed last March, when they were notified of their housing capital allocations for 1966-67, that the planning of all schemes should proceed to tender stage, and that instruction still stands.
