Vol. 226 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Malahide Fire Brigade Service.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider extending the activities of the Malahide fire brigade, County Dublin, to cover flooding as well as fire.

The statutory obligations of fire brigades are to provide for the extinguishing of fires and the rescuing of persons or property from such fires. I am aware, however, that fire brigades, including the brigade referred to by the Deputy, do in fact render services additional to their statutory duties where they can do so without endangering their ability to deal with fires.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary ensure that this fire brigade has a proper tender, unlike the one in County Donegal where the firemen have to push it to start it?
