The Committee considers and reports to the Houses of the Oireachtas on the expenditure, administration and policy of the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth and the State bodies within the responsibility of the Department.
The Committee was renamed during the Dáil term (24 May 2021) and was previously the Committee on Children, Disability, Equality and Integration.

Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) (Amendment) Bill
The Committee has completed its Pre-legislative Scrutiny of the General Scheme of the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) (Amendment) Bill 2021.
The proposed Bill will amend the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015. The rationale provided for drafting an amending piece of legislation is to improve processes and safeguards for those who will make use of the new decision-making supports.

Child Care (Amendment) [Guardian ad litem] Bill
The Committee has completed its pre-legislative scrutiny of the General Scheme of the Child Care (Amendment) [Guardian ad litem] Bill. The legislation aims to resolve issues and inconsistencies in the Guardian ad litem (GAL) system, so that children and their wishes are better represented in child care proceedings.
