Vol. 226 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Disemployment of Shannon Workers.

5.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the number of workers, male and female, whose employment has been terminated by the EI Company at Shannon Airport since 1st January, 1967; and the steps that have been taken by the Shannon Development Company to find alternative employment for them.

As it is not the practice to disclose information about the private affairs of industrial concerns, I am not prepared to supply the information sought in the first part of the question. The Deputy is, no doubt, aware that the EI Company have already made a public announcement in the matter. I am informed by the Shannon Free Airport Development Company that, in accordance with normal practice, they are in negotiation with other firms on the Estate with a view to placing in alternative employment as many as possible of the workers who have become redundant.
