Vol. 226 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Roscommon Flooding.

31.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the serious danger caused by flooding of the Ballyglass, Knockcroghery area, County Roscommon; and if he will take immediate steps to remedy this situation.

A drainage scheme has been prepared for the Ballyglass (Knockcroghery) Catchment area under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, but I cannot yet say when work on the scheme will commence. A start was about to be made, in 1965, when the shortage of capital caused the work to be postponed. Because of this postponement, I am making a special effort to start the work in the coming financial year.

Does that include the drainage of the Shannon and the Suck?

The question was about a different river.

Is the House satisfied that this is, in fact, the true position and that the Parliamentary Secretary has not sent a different reply to the local Fianna Fáil secretary?

Deputy Harte still has not got over the shock of making an ass of himself.

I will make the Parliamentary Secretary tell the truth in this House. There are tomahawks lying around the corridors yet.
