Vol. 226 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Aran Island Medical Facilities.

58.

asked the Minister for Health when he expects work to begin on the provision of a doctor's residence, a dispensary, and a hospital on Inishmore, Aran Islands.

I have already approved, in principle, of Galway County Council's proposal to provide a doctor's residence and new dispensary also a nurse's residence with emergency bed accommodation, on Inishmore, Aran Islands. Some difficulty has been experienced by the council in obtaining a suitable site but I have now approved of a recent proposal to acquire a site at Kilronan on which to provide the new premises.

I am not in a position to state when building work will begin. The provision of the new premises is primarily a matter for the county council as local health authority but my Department will be prepared to assist the council in every way possible in order to expedite the planning and construction of the new accommodation.
