Vol. 227 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Westmeath Kiosk.

9.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the need for a public telephone kiosk at Glenidan Cross, Collinstown, County Westmeath; and if he will have one erected there.

There is no likelihood that a kiosk at this crossroads would be used sufficiently to justify its provision.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware there is no telephone kiosk within three to three and a half miles of this area, that Collinstown is the nearest?

Might I ask whether it is the definite policy of the Department that unless a kiosk is economic, it must not or will not be provided?

Not necessarily permanent policy but at the moment it is the policy to try to provide a kiosk where it is felt the greatest use will be made of it.

That is the stock answer we all get about kiosks, regardless of need.

The use which can eventually be made of a kiosk is the proof of the need there is for it.

Not necessarily, I hope.
