Vol. 227 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Lights Dispute.

30.

asked the Minister for Labour if he is aware that notice of the intention of the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union members to withdraw their services on 25th March next has been served on the Commissioners of Irish Lights, Dublin; and if in view of the danger to life and shipping he will take steps to have the dispute settled as soon as possible.

I am aware that strike notice has been served on the Commissioners of Irish Lights by the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers Union.

As the Deputy is aware, the Oireachtas has provided the machinery of the Labour Court and its conciliation service to assist the parties to a trade dispute to resolve their differences. I am informed that a conciliation conference was held yesterday and that it was decided to refer the dispute to the Labour Court.
