Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Davis Statue.

37.

asked the Minister for Finance the total amount of public money spent in the erection of the Thomas Davis statue in College Green, Dublin.

38.

asked the Minister for Finance the names of (a) the contractors, (b) the architects, (c) the engineers and (d) any other personnel employed in the erection of the Thomas Davis statue in College Green, Dublin; and the amount paid to each.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 37 and 38 together.

The total cost of erecting the memorial in question is approximately £19,800.

The main contractors were Messrs. Kevin G. Walsh & Co. Ltd., Firhouse Road, Dublin. They were responsible for the construction of the paved platform and the circular fountain pool, the supply and placing in position of the pedestal and the carving of the inscription thereon and for the provision of the necessary electrical and mechanical etc., services. The amount of their contract was approximately £11,300.

The sculptor was Mr. Edward Delaney, Stoneview Place, Dún Laoghaire. He was responsible for the preparation of all necessary models, for the casting of the fountain figures and reliefs and for the supervision of the casting, in bronze, of the Davis figure. The total payment to him was approximately £6,600.

The casting of the Davis figure was carried out by the firm, Fonderia d'Arte of Milan and the cost, including transport, insurance, etc., amounted to about £1,900.

The architectural and engineering services were provided by professional staff of the Office of Public Works.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say how many tenders were received for this work and was the lowest tender accepted?

I do not think I have that information. If the Deputy puts down a further question, I will answer him.

Why has the Parliamentary Secretary not the information with him now?

This information was not asked in the question.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary trying to conceal something? Is the Parliamentary Secretary telling the truth?
