Vol. 227 No. 5

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork School.

92.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that it is proposed to close Rylane national school, County Cork, which is in good repair and capable of accommodating 200 pupils; and if he will postpone this decision and arrange for an inspector to meet the local residents.

Mr. O'Malley

When recently the question of carrying out a major scheme of improvements at this school arose, the matter of the long-term arrangements for the primary education of the children in the area fell to be considered. There is in the same parish at Aghabullogue another twoteacher school which has far more pupils than the Rylane school. It was felt that the proper solution of the problem would be the amalgamation of the Aghabullogue and Rylane schools, the amalgamated school being sited where the majority of the children reside. A few years must elapse before such a scheme could be finalised.

I will certainly arrange for an inspector of my Department to meet the parents concerned.
