Vol. 227 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - NIEC Report on Full Employment.

4.

asked the Taoiseach if he is aware of the concern caused by the recent NIEC Report on Full Employment; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The National Industrial Economic Council, in their Report on Full Employment published last month, examined the possibility of achieving full employment by 1980. The Government have welcomed this timely and valuable report. It is being examined by all Government Departments and, as intended by the Council, will be used by the Government as a long-term frame of reference for successive programmes of economic expansion.

The Council hoped that their report, by provoking thought and wider discussion, would bring about a fuller appreciation of what needs to be done to achieve full employment. To assist in making the important issues involved the concern of the whole community, the Government are arranging to have a popular short version of the Council's report published, free of charge, with as wide a distribution as possible. This will be published in the next few weeks.
