Vol. 227 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Naval Service Personnel.

94.

asked the Minister for Defence the total number of personnel in the Naval Service; and if this personnel is sufficient to man such ships as are available.

The number of personnel in the Naval Service on 31st March, 1967, was 403. When provision is made for the discharge of nonseagoing duties, including administration, shore training of crews and maintenance of vessels, this number is sufficient to enable two of the three corvettes to be manned but only by withdrawing some officers from shore appointments.

Could the Minister state if the two corvettes are manned at the moment?
