Vol. 227 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payments of Mayo Grants.

23.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of County Mayo the total number of supplementary housing grants awaiting payment and the total amount involved; the total number of water supply and sewerage grants awaiting payment and the amount involved; and the total amount sanctioned by his Department for payment of these grants.

I understand from Mayo County Council that approximately 160 applications for supplementary housing grants involving an expenditure of £32,000 are awaiting payment by the council. On 31st March, 1967, a capital allocation of £70,000 based largely on earlier estimates by the council, was made to them for the payment of supplementary grants in the current financial year, and proposals to finance this allocation are awaited from the council.

I also understand that 30 applications for supplementary water and sewerage grants are awaiting payment by the council, involving an expenditure of £1,800. The council have sufficient funds on hands to pay all such grants that have matured for payment, and there is a balance of over £8,000 available to meet future commitments.
