Vol. 227 No. 10

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Income Tax Yield.

1.

asked the Taoiseach the amount of income tax paid by individuals and companies respectively in each of the last three available financial years.

The only information available regarding income tax paid by companies is the estimated amount paid on their undistributed profits as compiled for inclusion in the national accounts. In the three financial years 1963-64, 1964-65 and 1965-66, it is estimated that the income tax paid on the undistributed profits was £11.0 million, £13.2 million and £14 million, respectively.

The amount of income tax paid by individuals, etc is found by deducting these estimates from the figures of total income tax. In 1963-64, 1964-65 and 1965-66, the amount of income tax paid by individuals, derived in this way, was £27.0 million, £32.1 million and £38 million, respectively. These figures include income tax paid by individuals, on their investment income.
