asked the Taoiseach the number of people earning per week less than (a) £5, (b) £8, (c) £10, (d) £12, (e) £14 (f) £16.

Comprehensive information relating to the numbers of people in the State, classified by weekly rates of earnings is not available. The only official data available, incorporating a classification by amount of earnings, relate to (a) the numbers of male and female industrial workers employed in October in establishments covered by the Census of Industrial Production and (b) the numbers of non-industrial civil servants on 1st January. With your permission, Sir, I propose to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving this information for the latest available periods.

Following is the statement:
