Vol. 227 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Building Land.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government what drainage proposals Dublin Corporation and Dublin County Council have to make more land available for building purposes; when the proposals will be implemented; and what they will cost.

The proposals of Dublin Corporation and Dublin County Council for drainage in the northern, western and south-western perimeter areas of the city which have been approved by me in principle are estimated to cost about £2.8 million. These proposals are at the planning stage and, accordingly, I cannot say at present when they will be implemented. Other schemes to the value of over £2 million are at the preliminary stages.

Would the Minister use his good offices to ensure that priority is given to this work without which the building programme cannot even partially be fulfilled?

I am doing so.

asked the Minister for Local Government the total number of acres in County Dublin now available and serviced for building purposes; and the number of houses which may be built thereon.

I am informed by Dublin County Council that a total of 990 acres of serviced land is available for building purposes in County Dublin on which some 6,300 houses are being or can be built. This figure comprises some 140 acres acquired for local authority houses and 850 acres of private building land in respect of which planning permission has been given. I am also informed that it has been estimated that there are additional sites for some 2,800 dwellings with drainage already available. Special arrangements are being made to provide services as quickly as possible for a further 8,000 sites.
