Vol. 227 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

33.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he will give sanction to the proposals put forward by Kildare County Council for a water supply service for Woodlands and Maganey Road, Castledermot, County Kildare.

Proposals for this extension are at present under consideration in my Department. I am not yet in a position to indicate when sanction thereto will issue.

34.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the position with reference to the Gowna water scheme, County Longford.

Contract documents for this scheme are under consideration in my Department.

35.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Local Government the amount paid to date in consultants' fees in respect of (a) Ardfinnan regional water scheme, (b) Dundrum regional water scheme, and (c) Emly regional water scheme, County Tipperary; and the terms of payment for these consultants.

The consulting engineers employed by the Tipperary (SR) County Council in connection with the water supply schemes referred to by the Deputy are paid in accordance with the scale of fees and conditions of engagement of the Institution of Civil Engineers of Ireland.

The information sought by the Deputy as to the amount paid to date in consultants' fees in respect of these schemes is not available in my Department.

36.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he hopes to give approval to a loan of £178,000 details of which were submitted to his Department on 11th August, 1965 for the implementation of a much-needed regional piped water supply for the Clonmel area, County Tipperary.

I am not in a position to say when approval is likely to issue to Tipperary (SR) County Council's application for a loan to finance this scheme.

37.

asked the Minister for Local Government the up-to-date position regarding the implementation of the proposed Ardfinnan regional piped water supply scheme; the area to be served; the cost involved; the date of application for loan; and when the money will be made available so that this essential service may be provided without any further delay.

This scheme which it is proposed to carry out in three stages is designed to give a supply of piped water to Ardfinnan, Newcastle, Clogheen, Ballylooby, Grange, Rathmore, Whitechurch, Raheen, Kedragh, Mortlestown, and rural areas together with a supplementary supply to Cahir town at an estimated overall cost of £600,000 approximately.

A tender for stage 1 of the scheme —which comprises headworks, reservoir and trunk mains from the headworks to Jamestown reservoir via Ardfinnan—has been approved by my Department, but a loan application to finance this stage which was submitted to my Department on 11th August, 1965, is still under consideration. It is not possible to indicate when approval thereto is likely to issue.

38.

asked the Minister for Local Government the up-to-date position regarding an application for a grant for a group water supply to serve the needs of persons (names supplied) at Doon, Arraglen, Kilworth, County Cork; the date of application for this grant; and the reason for the delay in dealing with the matter.

The design for this scheme which was requested by my Department in October, 1965, was not received in the Department until last month. The group are now being advised to seek tenders for the construction of the scheme and for the supply of materials.

Formal application for grants has not yet been made but survey sheets giving details of the participants in the scheme were received in the Department in November, 1964.

There has been no delay as far as my Department is concerned.

39.

asked the Minister for Local Government if there are any proposals before him in connection with a sewerage scheme for Ballintra, County Donegal; if so, the date on which the proposals were submitted by Donegal County Council; and when he proposes to approve them.

Contract drawings for the Ballintra sewerage scheme which were received in my Department on 24th November last were referred back last month to Donegal County Council for revision.

40.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will indicate the up-to-date position regarding the much-needed sewerage scheme for Killenaule, County Tipperary, for which a loan of £30,000 is long outstanding.

Contract documents for the Killenaule sewerage scheme were approved by my Department on the 16th September, 1966. I understand that the Tipperary (South Riding) County Council are at present in process of acquiring the necessary land rights for the scheme.
