Vol. 228 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wexford Tenant Purchase Scheme.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give approval to the purchase scheme for the Wolfe Tone Villas houses, Wexford, which was submitted to him by Wexford Corporation some time ago.

As indicated in my Department's circular letter of 23rd December, 1966, I do not propose to approve of any further purchase schemes for the sale of houses under section 11 of the Housing (Ireland) Act, 1919. I will, however, be prepared to approve of schemes for sales under section 90 of the Housing Act, 1966, which comes into force on 30th September, 1967, provided they are in accordance with the terms specified in article 4 of the Housing Authorities (Loan Charges Contributions and Management) Regulations, 1967. These regulations provide for the sale or lease of urban dwellings for a sum equivalent to the market value or replacement value of the dwellings, less a deduction of two per cent from such value for each year after five during which the tenant has been continuously in occupation of a local authority dwelling, subject to a maximum deduction of 30 per cent.

When did the Minister say this new regulation would be brought into operation?

It is to come into force on 30th September, 1967.
