Vol. 228 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Commemorative Stamp Issues.

7.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs what stamp issues have been decided on for this year; and whether any special commemorative issues are planned.

As already announced special stamps will be issued this year on the following themes: Annual Europa issue; Centenary of the Fenian Rising; Tercentenary of the birth of Jonathan Swift; Centenary of Canadian Confederation; International Tourist Year.

I hope to make an announcement shortly regarding new designs for stamps in the permanent series.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say whether there were any special representations from Castle-bar with regard to the commemoration of their award from the Council of Europe this year?

I have no indication that there has been, except from reading press reports.

Neither have I; I am just asking.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary try to ensure that the Drapier Letters are represented on the Jonathan Swift stamp as they represent the best of his patriotic endeavours?

The Stamp Advisory Committee are looking into that and all other aspects.
