Vol. 228 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Border Customs Post.

38.

asked the Minister for Finance if and when it is proposed to establish a customs post on the road between the townlands of Cloughfin in County Donegal and Clady in County Tyrone.

I am satisfied that the area referred to by the Deputy is adequately catered for by the existing cross-Border approved routes at Lifford and Kilclean. The expense of maintaining a third frontier post in this area would not be warranted.

Will the Minister indicate if, before the commencement of the tourist season, he will be in a position to abolish the pass books and the 2/- request payment?

If he does not, Deputy Harte will have something to say.

I am aware of Deputy Cunningham's very keen interest——

It is as keen as your own in Taca.

——and also of the fact that he has been pressing for some action in this regard. However, I hope to have some news for Deputy Cunningham soon.

What about news for Deputy Harte? Will the news extend as far as him?
