Vol. 228 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Supply Schemes.

18.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the urgent need of piped water for the Kilmanahan area, Clonmel which has two public houses and a large number of farmers, householders and cottiers; and when it is proposed to provide this much-needed amenity.

I am informed by Waterford County Council that a water supply scheme to serve the Kilmanahan area is being considered but that no plans have yet been prepared.

19.

asked the Minister for Local Government if his Department received an application from Kerry County Council to raise a loan for the Kells water supply scheme. County Kerry; if so, on what date it was received; and when it is likely to be sanctioned.

Kerry County Council's application for a loan to finance this scheme was received in my Department on 18th December, 1965 and is still under consideration.

The scheme was designed originally to serve seven houses and a school and also to provide bulk water for a group scheme of 14 houses. Due to difficulties in regard to source of supply and to the unenthusiastic response to a canvass of the area, Kerry County Council modified their proposals to provide only the head works and the supply main to serve the group scheme. My Department's local inspector is at present investigating the possibility of having the group scheme carried out using a private source.

I am not in a position to say when a decision in the matter will issue.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government if his Department received an application from Kerry County Council to raise a loan for a piped water supply scheme for Valentia Island, County Kerry; if so, on what date it was received; and when it is likely to be sanctioned.

Kerry County Council's application for a loan to finance this scheme which was received in my Department on 25th May, 1965 is still under consideration. I am not yet in a position to say when approval thereto is likely to issue.

21.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the Dungegan-Ballinskelligs extension to the Meelaguleen district water scheme, County Kerry; when the scheme is likely to be sanctioned; and on what date application was received in his Department from Kerry County Council.

I understand from Kerry County Council that work is nearing completion on the extension of the Dungegan-Ballinskelligs water supply scheme to the Meelaguleen area which was sanctioned by me on 9th January, 1967.

22.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the proposed improvements to the water scheme at Moycullen, County Galway.

Galway County Council's proposal to appoint a consulting engineer to prepare a preliminary report for the South Connemara regional water supply scheme, including the preparation of an advance scheme to serve Moycullen is under consideration in my Department. I am not in a position to say when a decision in the matter is likely to issue.
