Vol. 228 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bray District Court Area.

23.

asked the Minister for Justice if he has received representations to restrict the district court area of Bray, County Wicklow to cater only for the Bray area, and what he proposes to do in the matter.

Representations were received by me last month from the Bray Tourism Co-ordinating Committee that the area of jurisdiction of Bray District Court be reduced. The grounds for the request were that tourism in the town had been adversely affected as a result of publicity arising from cases heard at Bray District Court which, it was stated, related to incidents which had occurred outside the immediate neighbourhood of Bray.

I informed the committee that I would not be justified in altering the present composition of the Bray district court area on the grounds mentioned.

The present arrangement is the most suitable that can be made to provide for the convenience of the public and of legal practitioners, and for a satisfactory distribution of work between Bray and the adjoining court centres.
