Vol. 228 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Electricity Supply.

3.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when ESB supply will be provided for a resident (name supplied) of Swords, County Dublin, who has made repeated requests for this essential service.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that, apart from the representations made to the Board by the Deputy in March last, they have no record of any application in this case in recent years. The Board are arranging to quote terms to the person in question and if he accepts and has his house wired electricity will be made available as quickly as possible.

Would the Minister ask the Board to take into account that the applicant is not a person of very substantial means, and will he ask the Board to make the greatest possible effort to provide supply to this applicant at what would be to him an economic rate?

The Deputy knows the fixed charges are based on floor area and distance from supply. There are no exceptions made, but I understand that in this particular case, the terms will be reasonable.

4.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when ESB supply will be provided for a resident (name supplied) of Forest, Swords, adjoining Dublin Airport, who is compelled to use an oil lamp for domestic lighting.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that there are four potential consumers in the townland of Forest, County Dublin. The question of supply to these persons has been under consideration for some time past. It was necessary to determine that an overhead supply to the consumers would not cause interference with airport operations. It is expected that an acceptable route for a line will be settled very shortly and that the ESB will then be in a position to offer supply.
