Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lighting of Dublin Pedestrian Crossings.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether there are any proposals before him from Dublin County Council or Dublin Corporation for the improved lighting of pedestrian crossings.

There are no proposals before my Department from Dublin County Council or Dublin Corporation for the improvement of the lighting of pedestrian crossings. I understand from Dublin Corporation that complaints are received by them from time to time regarding the lighting of pedestrian crossings and that where it is found that the lighting is inadequate the matter is rectified by improving the street lighting. Under this heading, improvements to the lighting of crossings at Griffith Avenue and Irishtown Road are about to be undertaken by the corporation. I am informed by Dublin County Council that complaints had been received by them from the Garda authorities regarding the lighting of pedestrian crossings at Swords and Palmerstown and that the lighting of the Swords crossing has been improved. In the case of the Palmerstown crossing, I understand that the county council have improved the lighting of the flashing beacons and have repainted the black and white stripes. I also understand that the lighting at this crossing is to be considered further by the county council in connection with the provision of improved public lighting in the village.
