Vol. 228 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Aran Islands School children.

35.

asked the Minister for Education how the free secondary education scheme will apply to children living on the Aran Islands, Inishturk, Inishturbot, and Inishbofin, County Galway.

Mr. O'Malley

Children living on Inishere, Inishman, Inishturk, Inishturbot and Inishbofin will be entitled to have the full boarding school fee paid for them by my Department, provided that they attend a boarding school where the total fee does not exceed £120 per year. Children on Inishmore for whom suitable courses may not be available on the island will also be eligible for these boarding grants.

In regard to Inishmore, where there are post-primary facilities available in the technical school, will pupils have a free choice in regard to attending the technical school or a boarding school on the mainland?

Mr. O'Malley

Yes.
