Vol. 228 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - ESB Special Charges in Kerry.

3.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware of the grave dissatisfaction of the people of Tuosist, Kenmare, County Kerry, with the high ESB ground rent and special charges; and if, in view of the importance of tourism to this poor area, he will take steps to have these charges reduced.

The ESB fixed charges in the Tuosist district are, as in all other districts, calculated on the floor area of the premises.

I am aware that the special service charges in the district are relatively high. This is because the premises are dispersed over a very large area thus increasing considerably the cost of connection to the electricity supply. I have dealt with the general question of special service charges on several occasions in the House. I would refer the Deputy to the most recent occasion on 13th April, 1967, when I indicated that the ESB were precluded from giving preferential treatment to consumers in particular areas.
