Vol. 228 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government if there is any scheme whereby an elderly lady (name supplied) living alone can be provided with running water free of charge from a pipeline 50 yards away, as she is unable to travel for water herself, has nobody to do so, and has no means except social welfare benefits.

There is no scheme of grants under which a water supply can be laid on to a house free of charge and normally a contribution of at least one-third of the cost is required from the applicant. I understand that there is a possibility that a local charitable organisation may, with the consent of the landlord, provide a water supply in this case.

18.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the proposed improvement works are likely to be carried out on the group water scheme in the Boulerea-Knock, Roscrea area of County Tipperary.

The proposals of Tipperary (NR) County Council to finance improvement works on this scheme have been approved by my Department. The carrying out of this work is now a matter for the group in consultation with the county council.

19.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the Bawnard, Rathmore water scheme, County Kerry which was sent to his Department 18 months ago for sanction.

There has been no change in the position since my reply to the Deputy's question of 7th March last when I informed him that there were no proposals before my Department for a water supply for this area.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will make a statement on the proposals for the extension of the Ballymote water supply scheme, County Sligo to the townlands of Carrowcushcly, Knocka-dalteen and Derroon; and if he is aware of the urgency of such extensions in conjunction with extensions to Carnaree and Ardnaglass.

As I indicated in my reply to the Deputy's question of the 2nd instant, preliminary proposals for a scheme of extensions to the Ballymote regional water supply scheme were submitted to my Department on 21st ultimo and are at present under examination.

The scheme provides for extensions to all the areas referred to.

21.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the urgency of extending the Ballymote, County Sligo sewerage scheme in the Keenaghan direction; and when he will approve the plans for this scheme which are already with his Department.

My Department have asked Sligo County Council to furnish certain additional technical data in connection with the preliminary proposals for this extension and this is at present awaited.
