Vol. 228 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Public Lighting.

22.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the improvement of public lighting generally is being held up until his Department's consortium on public lighting makes its report; and if he will make a statement on the matter, indicating when such report will be circulated.

Because, inter alia, of the high cost which local authorities have had to pay for improved public lighting to traffic route standard on main roads in built up areas, I asked an Foras Forbartha to have an examination made of the whole question of costs and standards of public lighting. I understand that the consortium of lighting experts engaged by An Foras for the purpose have now completed their investigation of the problem and that their report in the matter is expected to be presented to An Foras shortly. No avoidable delay will occur in issuing appropriate recommendations to local authorities arising out of consideration of the report.
