Vol. 229 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drogheda Dial Telephone System.

12.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if his attention has been drawn to the fact that in the Drogheda area the telephone dial system is most unsatisfactory, and that there have been numerous instances of crossed lines where subscribers have been apparently linked with calls between other subscribers; and if in view of these complaints he will state what steps he proposes to take to give an efficient service.

Only one subscriber has complained about the service since the beginning of this year. The difficulty mentioned was due to some congestion on trunk dialling equipment. This matter is receiving special attention. Additional equipment, including extra outlets to Dublin, is in course of installation and will be ready for service in a few months' time.

There has been no complaint of difficulty on the local service or of crossed lines. If the Deputy knows of any subscriber who may have had trouble with crossed lines I will have the matter investigated on receipt of details.

Does the Parliamentary Secretary know of anybody who has not had trouble with crossed lines?

I have not had any correspondence on those lines.

Everybody has trouble with crossed lines.
