Vol. 229 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Accidents at County Dublin Road Junction.

22.

asked the Minister for Justice if, in relation to a reply of 3rd May about accidents at the junction of Seafield Road and Stillorgan Road, he will state how many accidents have since occurred there ; how many persons were injured in these accidents; if he is aware of the growing anxiety of the residents of the area about the high figures of accidents at this junction ; and whether as the trend of accidents is increasing he will now ensure that a traffic light system be provided at this road junction immediately.

I have been informed that Garda records show that one accident, in which two persons were injured, occurred at the junction since the date mentioned.

The Garda are still of the opinion that it would be premature to provide a control at the junction until the four sets of lights referred to in my answers to the Deputy's previous questions on this subject are in operation on the Donnybrook to Cabinteely road and their effect on traffic has been studied.

A matter of this kind is essentially one for the experts, and I would be justified in interfering only if I considered that the Garda attitude was unreasonable. I have, of course, no reason to think that it is.
