Vol. 229 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Full-Time Student Costs.

30.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state, in respect of a recent year, the average cost of keeping a full-time student in (a) primary school, (b) secondary school, (c) vocational school, (d) college of technology and (e) university.

Mr. O'Malley

The information sought by the Deputy is in the form of a tabular statement which, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I intend to circulate in the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

AVERAGE cost to public funds of keeping a full-time student for the year 1964/65.

(a) PRIMARY SCHOOLS

£

Average cost per pupil on rolls

34

Average cost per pupil in average attendance

37

(b) SECONDARY SCHOOLS

58

(c) VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS

Whole time day continuation courses

67

(d) COLLEGES OF TECHNOLOGY

It is not possible to give an average figure of cost per full-time student under this head because separate accounts are not kept for these Colleges and also because of the variety in the nature and extent of the courses.

(e) UNIVERSITIES

125
