asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the number of cow testing associations in the country in 1930, 1940, 1950, 1960 and 1967; and the salary which his Department agreed that supervisors should be paid.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it in the Official Report.

Salary paid to cow testing supervisors

The salaries of supervisors are paid by the Associations employing them and are not a matter for my Department

State grants are paid as follows to the Associations:

(i) 4/- for each cow under test by an Association;

(ii) where the number of cows under test by an Association exceeds 250:

a sum of £26 10s. plus 1/- for each cow over 250;, where the number of cows under test is 250 or less sumsc according to the following scale:

176-250£26 10s. Od.

151-175£25 5s. Od.

126-150£24 0s. 0d.

100-125£22 15s. 0d.

Under 100£16 10s. 0d. plus 1/- per cow; and

(iii) 3/6d. per essential herd visit by the Supervisor (subject to a maximum of £30 for each Association.)
